LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is Natural Gas that has been converted to liquid form by cooling to -162°C for ease of storage or transport. It is both cleaner and cheaper than diesel with supply volumes into the UK increasing with worldwide production. Gasrec purchases LNG from both the UK and EU and manages distribution with its own tankers.
LNG is usually better suited to vehicles running higher mileage as the energy density is comparable to diesel by volume and can therefore maintain the range of a diesel vehicle without significantly reducing the weight capacity.
LNG can also be transported to any location via road tanker and therefore suits fleet operations which are not based adjacent to the UK gas grid, which is required for grid connected compressed facilities.
Whilst LNG is moved using the road network and stored on site in liquid form it can also be dispensed as CNG.
